On December 17th, SDMS students were treated to an interactive food demonstration during lunch time.
On December 17th, SDMS students were treated to an interactive food demonstration during lunch time. Root vegetables are the nutrition and Food Focus for the month of December, so Chef Rachel Larensen whipped up some healthful and new veggie snacks to try.  Students preferred the sweet potato chip and roasted sweet potatoes; many were brave and sampled parsnip chips and balsamic roasted carrots!  SDMS athletes were excited to learn that the complex carbohydrates provided by root veggies can power them through sports.  Even Principal Czapla and Vice Principal Fries stopped by to encourage students to fill up on these tasty and affordable nutrient powerhouses!  Make sure to include root vegetables like sweet potatoes, carrots, potatoes, onions, garlic, (and more!) into a balanced diet for optimum health and nutrition! More questions about personal nutrition?  Feel free to email your District Dietitian, Emily Pomykala, at epomykala@wethersfield.me.

Thursday December 10th 2015 the family and consumer science room was filled with music, laughter and students. The SDMS Circle of Friends hosted their annual Gingerbread House Activity. The architectural styles ranged from classical to modern. Both students and staff created masterpieces out of humble graham crackers, frosting and assorted candy. A wonderful time was had by all.
