News and Announcements
On Thursday, May 7th the Wethersfield Elementary Schools participated in National “Bike to School Day”. All the schools had a huge turnout, with many running out of room on their bike racks for all the bikes students rode to school! Besides using the trip to school as a chance for children (and adults!) to get the physical activity they need, it’s also fun, boosts the sense of community, and helps to alleviate traffic around schools.
Wethersfield Schools Parent Council also used “Bike to School Day” to day as an opportunity to honor Wethersfield’s school crossing guards. These men and women provide an invaluable service to the community by helping Wethersfield children get to school safely every day. In addition to each crossing guard receiving a gift bag, students made a special effort to thank crossing guards on their way back and forth to school so they knew that their service does not go unnoticed. Overall the day was a great success. Organizers hope “Bike to School Day” inspires students and their families to make walking and biking to school a regular part of their routine.
