Charles Wright 5th grade classes just finished their annual month-long Thanksgiving Food Drive for the Wethersfield Youth and Family Services. Donations were made by families from throughout the school community. A final push for donations was supported with three themed spirit days at which our students brought a food item or a dollar to help the cause. Children enjoyed Hat Day, Sportswear Day, and CW Spiritwear Day to help the cause.
¨We chose to do the Thanksgiving food drive when Mrs.Duffy (our social worker) let us know about a need in our community to help families who are struggling,¨ said fifth grade teacher Mrs. Mahoney. ¨We like to help and we think it is a good way to teach others in our school about being kind and helpful to others.¨
On Monday, November 13, 2017, the 5th graders packed all the food items into boxes and parent volunteer, David O’Keefe, the dad of kindergarten student, DJ O’Keefe, delivered them to Wethersfield Social Services. Thank you Mr. O’Keefe!
The Charles Wright community donated boxes and boxes of non-perishable food as well as $493.00 to the Wethersfield Social Services through our 5th Grade Annual Thanksgiving Fund Drive! A special thank you to all who have given of themselves through donations and labor on the project!
