Best of Spain

Summer Trip 2009

Fifteen Wethersfield High School Spanish students embarked on a two-week excursion through Spain in July.  Students had an opportunity to visit major cities and experience the Spanish culture firsthand.  Some highlights of the trip included sightseeing in Madrid, Seville, Córdoba, Málaga, Alicante, Barcelona, Bilbao, San Sebastian, and Segovia.  Students took a side-trip to Gibraltar, where the clear visibility allowed them to see the shores of Africa.  In Seville, students enjoyed a flamenco show and took a cruise on the Guadalquivir River by night.  Students were fortunate to be in Barcelona during one of the stages of the Tour de France and also walked the street of Pamplona during the famous San Fermines festivities.  Students bid farewell to beautiful Spain by tasting “churros con chocolate” and relaxing in the Plaza Mayor.

At our last Town Meeting our grade six students treated the Webb School Community to their version of Channel 51 News (after our address 51 Willow St.). This video was done with our talented art teacher and is an elementary version of the WHS Blue Eagle News. The WHS kids inspired us! Please click for more.

Students in Mrs. Cookson's 4th grade class have been working to read "with their noses in the book" and notice details about their characters in order to develop an interpretation. This week they applied these new strategies to closely read and interpret photographs. Please click for more.
