WHS Library Media Center Updates and Happenings
On Tuesday, March 15th and Wednesday, March 16th, the LMC held it's very first Cultural Awareness Forum on the dangers of a single story.
“The single story creates stereotypes, and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete. They make one story become the only story.”
~ Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Thank you to the students and teachers that participated for sharing your thoughts and stories.
Wethersfield Public Library Comes WHS
On several visits in September and October, Wethersfield High School students and teachers learned how the resources and services provided by our public library complement and extend those of the high school library, including many electronic resources which are available 24/7 directly from home with a library card. During these visits, students got to meet Beth Katsoris-Meehan, Wethersfield Library's new Teen Librarian, who provided demonstrations of resources, such as Overdrive, One-click Digital, Zinio, and Freegal. Students also learned that the library is a great place for study groups as well as a quiet work space without distractions.

Wethersfield High School Celebrates Poetry Month
Charles R. Smith, Jr. Award Winning Author, Poet, and Photographer
On Monday, April 9th Charles R. Smith, Jr. visited Wethersfield High School. During his visit, Mr. Smith facilitated a poetry workshop for 22 students that had pre-registered. Following the workshop, over 200 students attended an assembly in which he performed several of his poems as his photography flashed in the background. Mr. Smith's performance was engaging and entertaining as he shared his life experiences and how he combined his passions for photography, sports, and words to become a professional photographer, poet, and writer.
This event was made possible from the proceeds of our previous book fairs with the additional support of the Wethersfield Creative Arts Council. As always, thank you for your support!
