2011 Scholarship Winners

Daniel Massaro

Daniel MassaroDan was on the Varsity Swimming Team for 4 years. For 3 of those years he was named to the All-Conference Team and for 4 years to the All-Academic Team.He was named All-State one season and was Captain of the Team his Senior year. He played 3 years of varsity Volleyball and was Captain and All-Conference for his Junior and Senior years, while being named to the All-Academic Team all 3 years. More importantly, he had a Class Rank of 3 and had a 3.87 GPA. He was named the WHS Male Scholar-Athlete, making High Honors every quarter. He was a member of the National Honor Society and a National Merit Seminalist. Dan is attending UCONN.

Katherine Walsh

Katherine played Varsity Volleyball at Wethersfield for 3 years and was Captain her Senior year. She was named to both the All-Conference and All-Academic Teams. She had a Class Rank of 33 with a 3.51 GPA. She was a 4-year member of the award-winning WHS Marching Band. Katie was a member of the National Honor Society and the Italian National Honor Society and received the C.O.L.T. Award for Excellence. She is attending Smith College.

 

 

 

2010 Scholarship Winners 

BRIDGET CLOONAN 

Bridget CloonanBridget was a High Honor Roll student throughout her WHS career.  Ranked #2 in her class, she was the recipient of the 2007 and 2009 CT Colt Award and the Harvard Book Prize.  In addition to being a Varsity letter winner for 4 years  and Captain in 2009on the Girls Swim and Diving Team  and a member for 2 years on the Varsity Girls Golf team, Bridget was a Varsity Cheerleader for 3 years. She received the WHS Scholar Athlete Award and the Stephen Shultz Award for swimming. She was a 3 time member of the All-CCC Girls Swim Team and All-CCC Academic Team. Bridget is attending the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences.

PETER SKEVAS  

Peter SkevasPeter was a General Honor Roll student throughout his WHS career.  As an athlete,  Peter  was on the Track and Field team his freshman and sophomore  years and the JV soccer team as a sophomore.However, basketball was his true passion from the time he entered WHS as a 4’10” freshman until his final season as a 6’ senior.  Constantly working hard to improve his talents as a player, he played both JV and Varsity Basketball as a sophomore and then was a Co-Captain in both his junior and senior years. His dedication and hard work served as an example to his team mates and in his senior year  he was named Academic  All-CCC and All-CCC as a player. The winner of the Millard Mason Physical Education Award and the William R. Stewart  Memorial Award, Peter is attending Plymouth State University. 

 

 

2009 Scholarship Winners:

Chris Thibeault

Chris ThibeaultChris was an outstanding student-leader-athlete at WHS. He was a High Honor Roll Student while serving as Class President all four years! He played basketball for 2 years and soccer for 3 years and baseball for 4 years. He was a Captain and selected for the All-CCC Conference and All-New Britain Herald Teams as a pitcher for the 2009 season. He has served his community as an umpire for little league and as an assistant coach for Girls Travel Soccer and Basketball. Graduating in the top 5% of his Class, he is attending UCONN on the Storrs Campus.

 

KYLE LEWIS

Kyle LewisKyle graduated with a 3.3 GPA, having made high or general honors every semester at WHS. Playing soccer for 4 years, including one on the Varsity, she excelled in both Indoor and Outdoor Track. She was All-Conference for the 4X100 for 3 years while achieving All-Academic Team honors. In her freshman, junior and senior years, she was part of the team that won 5th place in the States for the 4X400, 4X600 and 4X800, running the anchor leg in the 400 and 800. Kyle was team Captain her senior year and holds the school records in the 4X400, 4X600 and 4X800 relays. She is attending Providence College where she plans on going out for the Track Team this spring.

Students in Mrs. Cookson's 4th grade class have been working to read "with their noses in the book" and notice details about their characters in order to develop an interpretation. This week they applied these new strategies to closely read and interpret photographs. Please click for more.
