The Alfred W. Hanmer School has a stimulating environment and its setting in historic "Olde Wethersfield" offers many unique educational opportunities for children. Each year the pages of history come alive with architectural walking tours along streets lined with 17th and 18th century homes, and with on-site programs at the ancient burying grounds, Wethersfield Cove, and the Webb-Deane-Stevens Museum.
Built in 1967, Hanmer School was named in honor of Alfred Welles Hanmer (1867-1953), a community leader who served as the Director of the Comstock-Ferre Company, and as Wethersfield's First Selectman for forty-six years.
The staff is committed to providing students with a quality education. Each year the administrative and teaching staff ensure that all students are prepared for lifelong success by fostering relationships with students and the community. We help students build upon strengths and identify areas of need. We teach students to reflect upon their own learning and make goals for the future.
The Hanmer School community of students, parents and staff are proud of their school and continue to dedicate themselves to total school and community improvement. We stay focused on making a difference for ourselves, our school and our world.
