On February 6th, 2004 Wethersfield High school graduate, Jim Flannery, returned to WHS to present a unique and well earned award to Peter Hahn a senior WHS physics student. The national award was for a contest called "Mission Physics" created by Flantascience and organized by Flannery. In the contest students across the country were challenged to create an engaging and informative peer-to-peer teaching video to introduce and explain Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation. Combining his knowledge of physics with his enthusiasm for the subject, Peter created a two minute video complete with narration and animation, as well as clear explanations of the concept and its applications. His video was judged by a panel of physics teachers. Based on his video's engaging and educational nature, Peter was awarded 2nd place nationally in the competition. Please click the title for more.

Hailey Oleson, a junior at Wethersfield High School, earned one of two regional awards in the Intellectual Freedom Challenge for her excellent essay on The Perks of Being a Wallflower in which she shared her ideas on the value of reading texts that some may view as controversial. Hailey submitted a regionally winning essay which will now be entered for consideration of national status in the Intellectual Freedom Challenge by the National Council of Teachers of English. The members of the Elizabeth George Speare Chapter of the National English Honor Society at Wethersfield High School wish Hailey congratulations and the best of luck. Please click the title for more.

The Wethersfield Public Schools welcome Harold "Hal" Even as the district's Director of Security/Residency. Mr. Even brings to the district a wealth of experience that will directly impact the maintenance of safe and secure environments across all of our schools. A Wethersfield High School graduate, Mr. Even pursued high education at St. Anselm College where he earned a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice. He also earned a Master's in public policy from Trinity College. Mr. Even's professional career has included experience in both law enforcement and corporate workplace security. Mr. Even spent 20 years with the Hartford Police Department, rising to the rank of Captain. To the Residents, Staff and Students of the Town of Wethersfield,

Please be advised that the Athletic wing - which consists of the Pool, Gym "A", locker rooms, fitness/weight room, cafeteria, auditorium, etc; Industrial Arts wing classrooms/shops, etc; and all other classroom after-school activities - will be off limits to ALL outside organizations while construction is on-going. This will include night usage of areas other than what already has been confirmed. Any night school activity that needs to take place in these wings will be moved to other portions of the building not under construction or moved off-site to another school venue, if possible. There will also be no Park & Recreation events held at WHS while construction is present. All P&R activities are moved to other school venues until the area is reopened for public use.
Wethersfield High School sponsored events that are scheduled to take place after hours are to be dealt with on an individual basis. I will be working with Mr. Moore and Mr. Maltese regarding this usage.

Please feel free to contact my office to discuss this matter at any time. I thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter.
