Ingela Shannahan, President of the Wethersfield High School Young Democrats, joined her teacher and club advisor, Mr. John Gallivan, at the Connecticut State Convention. Ingela, at age 17, was the youngest delegate in the State of Connecticut. Ingela voted to endorse Senator Richard Blumenthal for the U.S. Senate. She was also able to meet and talk with Emerson-Williams and Wethersfield High School alumnus, U.S. Senator Christopher Murphy. Ingela, a senior at Wethersfield High School, said: "It was really exciting to be a delegate to the State Convention. I have been President of the Young Democrats for two years and it was really cool seeing Chris Murphy and how far he has come since being in the Young Dems at WHS." Please click the title for more.

Third graders at Emerson-Williams had a great time visiting the Wethersfield Public Library.
Twenty students gathered in the SDMS Library after school on Wednesday, May 18 to talk with and ask questions of former Atlanta Falcon football player turned sports writer Tim Green. Tim spoke about his educational journey as an English major at Syracuse University, his life in the NFL, the importance of education, and his career as a writer. He also fielded questions from aspiring SDMS authors about the process of getting published, finding an agent, and the book he's most proud of--Unstoppable. On May 19, students will have the opportunity to Skype with author Kwame Alexander, award-winning poet and novelist. The author Skypes were funded through the generosity of SDMS PAC.
Wethersfield Public School students are in the midst of taking the state SBAC Testing. The ability of our Charles Wright students to take the assessments on their classroom Chromebooks has brought our students greater comfort and familiarity with the process. The assessments were shortened this year to just one English Language Arts (ELA) assessment and two Math assessments further lowering any test anxiety.
On Tuesday, May 10, 2016, Charles Wright third graders combined a walking field trip through Old Wethersfield with a visit from the Pequot Museum. The Wethersfield Police Department provided safe crossing of Silas Deane Hwy so that our students could journey past Stillman, the Wethersfield Board of Education Building, through Old Wethersfield and finally meet up with the docent from the Pequot Museum at the Webb Barn. It was a beautiful warm day for combining a walking tour of town and learning about Connecticut's indigenous people and culture.
