On Monday, May 2, 2016, Charles Wright sixth graders took a walking tour of Yale University. Small groups were taken on guided tours by Yale students and enjoyed lunch in the university's cafeteria. The experience was a great reminder that the days to prepare for college are upon them. The opportunities to take more advanced coursework will depend on their choices and performance now in their current studies. We're so proud of our sixth graders and appreciative of the teachers and parents who serve on the sixth grade committee making all of the end-of-year sixth grade experiences so special!
Mrs. DeJohn's second grade class working on their raised garden beds with Andrea Aglieco and the staff from Summer of Solutions. The students weeded, seeded, drilled, and learned about composting on Tuesday! What a great experience for the students - they LOVED it!
Students, staff, parents, and community members came together as one to celebrate Bike/Walk to School Day at Webb Elementary School. Students met at the top of Windmill Hill and made the bike/walk to school together as one united front. Once arriving, all participants met on our front steps for a collaborative photo. Any student who was unable to meet us at the top of Windmill Hill, was able to join the event by walking the perimeter of our school with staff and friends. A huge thank you to Elisabeth D'Amato and Melissa Perry for helping organize the event in conjunction with their Kindness Club members.
Grade six students in Ms. Wynne's class have recently learned the "architecture" of a conference with the research, compliment, teach process. After learning, they visited third graders in Mrs. Olson's room to practice their conferencing skills. They focused on helping each student improve their writing in the grade three literary essay unit. It was a very powerful experience because there was learning going on on both ends. Grade six students expressed what a challenge it was to find something specific to teach and explain it in a way that makes sense. The third graders were excellent with taking feedback from the "big kids" and Ms. Wynne was super impressed with the writing they're already doing at this age!
