January 2009

For many of us, January is traditionally a time for renewed commitments. No doubt we all have made some New Year’s resolutions and are renewing commitments in many areas of our lives. 

As an organization, we have our own version of New Year’s resolutions. In anticipation of the March Connecticut Mastery Tests (CMT’s) and CAPT at Wethersfield High School, our faculty will intensify the focus on increasing student proficiency in math, science and literacy. Our SMART Goals target is 90% of all students at or above goal by next year and we have implemented strategies to ensure we reach that goal. Our teachers and principals will have returned from the holiday break with a renewed commitment to our students’ success. 

I wish each of our Wethersfield Public Schools students, families and staff a very Happy and Successful New Year!

As we begin the new calendar year and approach the upcoming budget season, we continue our commitment to a strong school system and the preservation of our existing programming and staff. 

Simultaneously, we continue to be committed to evaluating our current practices in the spirit of finding potential cost savings and identifying efficiencies. 

As community members, each of us has a different perspective. To this end, I offer the opportunity to communicate your thoughts and opinions on any potential cost saving measures and/or suggestions for budget reduction opportunities.
