Dear Charles Wright Families,
Welcome
to the 2009-2010 school year at Charles Wright
Elementary School! It is our goal that each child will
learn, grow, and develop every day at Charles Wright.
Our desire is to provide academic excellence in a warm
and supportive school climate. We want each family to
feel that “My child is having a great year at Charles
Wright.”
Strong
parental and community support enhances the quality of a
child’s education. We hope you will visit the school
often. Please come meet with us, talk to us, join the
PTO, and volunteer your time and energy. We know that
your involvement, combined with the efforts of our
outstanding staff, will make this school year a rich and
rewarding year for your child.
Family
and school represent the primary environments in which
children grow and develop, and good schools value
parental involvement. At Charles Wright, we strive to
build on parent-teacher relationships through open and
frequent communication, mutual respect and thinking
about of what is best for each individual child.
Please
call me at 860-571-8350, if you have any suggestions,
questions, or concerns. I look forward to strengthening
our school family partnership during the 2009-2010
school year.
Respectfully,
Mindy B.

The following suggestions from The
National Association for the Education of Young Children
(NEAYC) provide ways we can share responsibility for
creating a working relationship that will help children
succeed academically.
As your child’s first teacher you can:
-
Read Together-
Establish a family reading time, when
all adults and family members read together on a
regular basis.
-
Establish a Family Routine-
Routines generally include a time for
practicing skills learned at school, chores, eating
together and going to bed at an established time.
-
Use Television Wisely-Limit
the amount of time your child spends watching
television and help them choose appropriate programs
to watch. Some TV programs can help increase an
interest in learning.
-
Keep in Touch With the School-Stay
aware of what your child is learning, what they have
to accomplish and how they are doing. If you can’t
visit, schedule a phone call or send an email to
your child’s teacher.
-
Offer Praise and Encouragement-
Parents and families play an
important role in influencing a child’s confidence
and motivation to become a successful learner.
Encourage your child on their assignments and
introduce them to outside experiences that enhance
their self confidence and broaden their interests.
In an effort to connect the school to
you, we will:
-
Provide opportunities for you to be
involved
in classroom activities both in school and at home
by letting you know what is going on and how you can
be involved.
-
Communicate regularly
and keep you informed of our goals and what your
children will be learning.
-
Offer conferencing opportunities
so you can share information, ask
questions and stay connected to your child’s
learning.
“The school will teach children how to
read, but the environment of the home must teach them
what to read. The school can teach them how to think,
but the home must teach them what to believe.” ~ Charles
